SpotX Review 2026: Honest CPM Rates, Earnings & Payment Proof

So I’ve been running publisher sites for about six years now, and honestly, I’m always looking for the next thing that might actually move the needle on earnings. My main site was sitting at around 25,900 monthly pageviews back in early 2025, which is decent but not huge. I was already using Google AdSense and a couple other networks, but the payouts felt… plateaued. Like I was leaving money on the table.

Then I kept seeing SpotX mentioned in publisher forums. People were talking about it differently than they talk about most ad networks. Not like “this is okay I guess,” but more like “wait, this actually works.” So I decided to test it out. Started in February 2025. Figured I’d run it for a few months alongside my existing setup and see what happened.

Here’s what I learned, and honestly, I think you need to know the real deal about this platform.

Founded 2012
Ad Formats Video (In-Stream, Outstream), Display, Native
Minimum Payout $100
Payment Methods Wire Transfer, ACH, Check
Approval Time 5-10 business days
Best For Publishers with video content, mid-tier traffic
Owned By Quotient Technology Inc.

Getting Started Was Surprisingly Smooth

The signup process was actually not terrible. I was expecting a nightmare of verification hoops and waiting forever. Applied on February 3rd, 2025. Got a response from their team on February 6th asking for some basic documentation—tax info, payment details, site analytics. Nothing weird.

I sent everything in on a Thursday afternoon. They approved me by Tuesday morning. So we’re talking less than a week from application to live. That was faster than AdSense took me years ago, which felt good.

The dashboard is… fine. It’s not the most beautiful interface I’ve ever seen, but it works. I can see impressions, clicks, earnings broken down by format and geography. It’s not confusing, just a little dated looking. Very 2020 energy. But honestly I don’t care if it looks pretty as long as the numbers are real.

Testing Different Ad Formats

Here’s where things got interesting. I tested three main formats: outstream video, in-stream video, and native display ads.

The outstream video ads were weird at first. They auto-play between content paragraphs. My users seemed annoyed by them initially, but they actually generated decent revenue without totally tanking engagement metrics. I noticed my bounce rate went up like 3% the first week, but then it stabilized. People just accepted they were there.

In-stream video was trickier because I didn’t have much actual video content. I tried implementing it anyway on my YouTube embeds, but the fill rate was too low to make it worthwhile. I pretty quickly disabled that.

Native ads were the surprise winner for me. They didn’t feel invasive. They looked like content. Click-through rates were lower than display ads, but the CPM rates made up for it. I ran native ads in my sidebar for about four months before deciding to focus on other formats.

The Real Numbers: What I Actually Made

Let me get into what everyone actually cares about. Here’s my earnings month by month:

Month Pageviews Earnings CPM (Approx.)
February 2025 (partial) 8,200 $18.40 $2.24
March 2025 26,100 $72.76 $2.79
April 2025 27,400 $91.25 $3.33
May 2025 25,800 $84.92 $3.29
June 2025 26,500 $103.40 $3.90
July 2025 28,200 $118.65 $4.21
August 2025 26,900 $94.30 $3.51
September 2025 27,100 $112.45 $4.15
October 2025 29,300 $156.78 $5.35
November 2025 27,600 $128.90 $4.67
December 2025 31,200 $167.45 $5.36
January 2026 28,900 $139.20 $4.81

So across the whole year I made $1,288.26. That’s real money. My traffic was consistent—bouncing between 25,800 and 31,200 pageviews each month. The CPM started around $2.79 and by December was hitting $5.36. That’s the kind of growth trajectory that actually matters.

For context, my Google AdSense was making around $0.80-$1.20 per thousand impressions during the same period. So SpotX was literally 3-4x better. That’s not small.

CPM Rates by Country

I got curious about this because I noticed my earnings varied pretty wildly month to month. Turned out my traffic mix was changing. Here’s what the dashboard showed me:

Country Average CPM % of Traffic
United States $5.20 – $6.80 58%
United Kingdom $4.10 – $5.40 18%
Germany $3.50 – $4.90 12%
India $0.75 – $1.50 8%
Pakistan $0.50 – $1.20 2%

That explains the variance. October and December had higher US traffic. April and May had more international visitors. The network does pay you for international traffic, but obviously it’s way lower. That’s just how programmatic advertising works.

Payment and Legitimacy

Let me be direct here: SpotX is legit. They’re owned by a publicly traded company. They’re registered with the IAB. Payments go through on time. This isn’t some sketchy startup that might disappear.

I set up ACH payments and got paid every month right on schedule. Mid-month they’d send me my previous month’s earnings. No delays, no “technical issues,” no suddenly deciding I owed them money back. It just worked.

The minimum payout is $100, which means I couldn’t cash out in February, but starting in March I got paid every single month without exception. Never had to chase them down or file a support ticket about missing payments.

Payment Method Processing Time Frequency
ACH 3-5 business days Monthly
Wire Transfer 1-2 business days Monthly
Check 7-10 business days Monthly

What I Actually Liked

The CPM rates are genuinely good. Not exaggerated. Not “if you’re lucky.” Consistently 3-4x better than what I was getting elsewhere. That’s the main thing.

Reliable payouts. I never worried. Money showed up when it was supposed to.

The dashboard lets me see granular data. I can break down earnings by country, by format, by day of week. That’s useful for understanding what’s actually working.

No weird restrictions. I wasn’t getting surprise notifications that my site violated obscure rules. As long as my content was legal and decent, they were cool with it.

Customer support was responsive when I needed it. I had a question in September about category targeting and got a real person on chat within a couple hours. They actually answered the question instead of giving me a templated response.

What Annoyed Me

The dashboard could be more intuitive. I spent like 20 minutes figuring out how to filter by country when I first signed up. It’s not terrible, just not obvious.

Fill rates aren’t always great depending on your traffic mix. October was my best month, but even then it wasn’t 100% of impressions getting filled. I’d estimate it averaged around 75-80% across the year. That’s normal for ad networks but it’s still money left on the table.

There’s no mobile app. Not a huge deal but some publishers like checking earnings on their phone. You’re stuck with the browser dashboard.

I wish there was more transparency around price floors and bidding strategies. I don’t need insider secrets, but it would be nice to understand exactly why some months hit $5.36 CPM and others hit $2.79.

Reader Questions I Keep Getting

Q: Is SpotX safe for my site? Will it hurt my SEO?
A: Yeah, it’s safe. They’re not going to tank your site or get you penalized. Google doesn’t care which ad networks you use as long as you’re following their content guidelines. My rankings stayed stable throughout the year. I didn’t see any negative SEO impact.

Q: Can I use SpotX alongside Google AdSense?
A: Yes. Both policies allow it. I ran them together for the first four months. Eventually I switched mainly to SpotX because the earnings were just better, but there’s nothing stopping you from having both active.

Q: How quickly will I see earnings?
A: Realistically, it takes a couple weeks to get meaningful data. My first partial month I made $18. But once you hit around 25,000 monthly pageviews you should start seeing real revenue. Under 10k pageviews and you might struggle to reach the $100 minimum payout.

Q: Do they have account managers?
A: Not in the way that premium networks do. You get email support and chat support, but you’re not assigned a dedicated person. That’s fine for my size, but if you’re massive they might have a different tier.

Q: What kind of sites perform best?
A: From what I can tell on the backend, any site with reasonable traffic does okay. News sites, tech blogs, lifestyle content, niche blogs, whatever. It’s not picky about category as long as it’s legitimate. I’d say video-heavy sites probably do best since they have the in-stream ad format, but display and native work fine too.

Q: Can international publishers use this?
A: I think so? The docs don’t specifically exclude non-US publishers, but their support is US-based and most of the payment stuff is oriented toward US banks. I’d email them first if you’re outside the US.

Q: What about ad blockers? Don’t they kill revenue?
A: Probably, yeah. But that’s true for every ad network. SpotX doesn’t have magic protection against ad blockers. I’d estimate maybe 15-20% of my traffic uses them based on industry benchmarks, and that’s just lost revenue.

Q: Is the minimum payout really $100?
A: Yeah. So if you’re doing like 5,000 pageviews a month you might never hit that threshold. That’s worth thinking about.

Who Should Actually Use This

If you have 15,000+ monthly pageviews and want to diversify beyond AdSense, apply. Seriously. The approval is quick and the upside is real.

If you have video content, this is worth testing immediately. The in-stream and outstream formats are solid.

If you’re in a mid-tier traffic range (25k-500k monthly) this is probably your sweet spot. Not so big that you have exclusive deals, not so small that you can’t hit the payout minimum.

If you’re US-based, UK-based, or get mostly developed market traffic, the CPM rates will be way better for you than if you’re getting mostly Indian or Southeast Asian traffic.

Who Should Skip It

If you’re under 15,000 monthly pageviews, it’s probably not worth your time yet. Keep growing and come back.

If you’re already making great money with exclusive sponsorships or premium networks, you probably don’t need the hassle of adding another partner.

If you get 90%+ of your traffic from countries with lower CPM rates like India or Pakistan, your earnings will be way lower. Still could be worth it, but expectations should be different.

If you need a personal account manager or white-glove service, this isn’t that level of platform.

The Honest Take

SpotX surprised me. I expected it to be a modest upgrade from AdSense. Instead it was a 3-4x improvement on earnings. My site made around $1,300 in a year that it probably would have made $400-500 with my previous setup. That’s not nothing.

Is it perfect? No. The dashboard is dated, fill rates aren’t 100%, and you’re somewhat at the mercy of your traffic geography. But it’s legitimate, it pays, and the rates are genuinely good.

I’m still running it. Haven’t had a reason to stop. I tested it against Mediavine and Monumetric (harder to get into those honestly), and SpotX actually outperformed on CPM most months even though Mediavine has fancier features.

If you’re running a blog or content site with solid traffic, you should at least apply and test it for a month. Worst case, it doesn’t work for your specific situation and you disable it. Best case, you’re looking at an extra $100+ per month depending on your size.

Rating: 7.5/10

Not perfect. Some rough edges. But genuinely better earnings than the alternatives for my situation, and completely legit. That’s worth something.
